Best DC Running Clubs: Find Your Perfect Fit This Spring 2025

Table of Contents

Whether you’ve been in DC for a month or a decade, you’ve probably noticed that running is one of the most popular hobbies here. With some of the best trails in the country, DC offers countless opportunities to lace up and hit the pavement. There are a bunch of running clubs in the city, so the biggest challenge isn’t finding one, it’s deciding which one to join. To make it easier, here are some of the best (and most welcoming) running clubs in DC.

1. DC Parkruns

When I was in college at American University, I frequented DC's park runs. If you’re looking for an incredibly inclusive running group, Parkrun is the way to go. These free, weekly, timed 5Ks are held across the city, and they’re designed for everyone: whether you’re a seasoned marathoner or just getting started. Each event includes a designated tail walker, ensuring that no one finishes last.
Even better? They head out for coffee together after the run, making it a great way to connect with other runners.

DC’s Parkrun locations include: Roosevelt Island, Anacostia, Fletcher’s Cove, and College Park.

(Side note: I’ve considered starting one at Fort Totten—if you’re interested, let me know!)

2. Pacers Running Club

Pacers Running Club is one of the most popular running groups in DC, and for good reason. Their structured runs and social atmosphere make it an excellent choice for those looking to improve their pace or simply meet fellow runners. That said, their popularity means these runs can get

crowded, making it difficult to meet new people. Still, if you’re looking for an energetic group with a well-organized system, Pacers is a top-tier choice.

3. NoMa Run Club

Similar to Pacers, the NoMa Run Club is welcoming and fun, but their events also draw large crowds, making it challenging to meet new people while running. However, if you’re looking for an active group that meets regularly and encourages all paces, NoMa might be a great fit.

4. November Project DC

I personally joined on the morning of my 21st birthday, and it was one of the best experiences of my fitness journey. Plus, my good friend Meredith met her husband here—so don’t discount the community aspect!

5. District Running Collective

A dynamic and diverse running group, the District Running Collective (DRC) is known for its strong community vibe and commitment to making running accessible to everyone. They focus on both fitness and fun, often incorporating post-run social events. If you’re looking for a group that blends running with culture and camaraderie, DRC is a fantastic choice.

Find Your Running Community

No matter your experience level or running style, there’s a DC running club that’s right for you. Whether you prefer a laid-back social run or an intense early-morning workout, these groups provide the structure, accountability, and community that can make running more enjoyable and sustainable.
